YourShot's Daily Dozen's for 2012: Top-3 Contributors

Continuation of previous posts (YourShot's Daily Dozen's for 2014: Top-5 Contributors, YourShot's Daily Dozen's for 2013: Top-5 Contributors).

Decided to switch to just Top-3 for 2012 year to minimize the listing: there are 16 authors on 4th place (4 publications) and 33 authors on 5th place (3 publications).

  1. The 1st place is divided between two photographers with 8 publications:
  2. In 2012, the threshold for the 2nd place is 6 publications. Two photographers were able to reach it:
  3. Graham McGeorge got the 3rd place with 5 publications.
Graham McGeorge is the only person from the list who will appear in 2013 Top-5 on the 4th place with 9 publications.

YourShot's Daily Dozen's for 2014: Top-5 Contributors

Continuation of my first post about top contributors to National Geographic's YourShot daily dozen.
Now, it is time to share listing for 2014 (names are shown in the same way as in public profile of corresponding users).

  1. The 1st place is now occupied by one person with 14 publications in 2014: Raffaele Montepaone.

  3. The 3rd place is divided between three photographers who got 7 photos published:
  4. The 4th place is divided between nine photographers. Each of them has 6 photos published in 2014:
  5. Eighteen (!!!) photographers reached the 5th place with 5 publications in 2014 year.
About 3000 photographs were selected and published during 2014 year in YourShot Daily Dozen from about 2400 users and majority (~90%) of authors were selected once or twice.

Mike Melnotte and Ali Hamed Haghdoust are the only ones who moved from 2013 to 2014 year's list of YourShot's Daily Dozen's Top-5 contributors and it is amazing!

YourShot's Daily Dozen's for 2013: Top-5 Contributors

Hey there,

There is "Daily Dozen" section in Your Shot National Geographic site. This section is updated daily with "Our favorite photos, chosen by National Geographic editors." My curiosity asked me yet another question: are there any photographers who got published there more than once?

I decided to start with year 2013 and after careful calculations, I have compiled yet another listing (names are shown in the same way as in public profile of corresponding users).
Please, welcome.

Recent sales update and top performers for the last week

I have collected data for a week 20-27 Sep. Unfortunately, data was lost for the first 12 hours of 22-Sep-15 (GMT+3). Analyzed time frame (approximately):
  • Start: 20-Sep-15 00:00:00 (GMT+3)
  • Finish: 27-Sep-15 11:00:00 (GMT+3)
Data is analyzed in the following ways: same charts as before were created for all sales for analyzed time frame, top-10 performers were selected and announced and charts were created just for sales of those top-10 performers.

"Art by type" for the past week is showing similar distribution to previous result: photo is on the first place, painting - second, digital art - third.

Price range is almost the same: $20-$29 is most popular price for small sized print.
Distribution by year is similar again: most of the sold artwork is created during the last four years.

Table below are for those who interested in how much you can sell on FineArtAmerica.com.

Top performer for the last week is Michael Tompsett: 38 artworks was bought by buyers mostly from United States, few from United Kingdom and Netherlands. I have started discussion on FineArtAmerica to get feedback on stats accuracy.

Price for a small sized print is less than $26 for 94% of sold artworks. I plan to analyze prices for all available sizes later. Stay tuned ;-)

"Art-by-type" distribution for top-10 sellers is changed: digital art - the first, painting - the second, mixed media - the third (thanks to top-3 sellers).

Most of the art that was sold by top-10 sellers was created during the last 3 years.

Important notes:
  • Data from the following time frame was not included: 22-Sep-15 00:00 -- 22-Sep-15 12:00 (GMT+3)
  • Authors may buy their own work from FineArtAmerica. It is not clear to me if FineArtAmerica includes such sales on recent sales page.
  • Data is collected from recent sales pages from FineArtAmerica.com site, all values shall be treated as approximated.

Analysis of recent fine art sales at FineArtAmerica.com

I have created four charts that shows data analysis of 12 hours period of fine art sales (approximated) at FineArtAmerica.com using open source of information.

Charts can help answer on questions like "what kind of art sells best on fineartamerica?", "what are the prices of best selling art?", "what is the age of best selling fine art?", etc.

Gathered data allows to say where are most buyers are located, that shall help to establish proper geo-targeting for your ads.

These charts are the first step in turning "recent sales" page into really useful fine art marketing tool. I am gathering data continuously to increase time range and amount of data for more precise values. If you are interested in getting access to this information, please let me know.
